Introduction
You are in your workshop and a
neighbor asks to borrow some roofing nails and some Phillips head screws to make
some minor repairs. You, as the
master craftsman, immediately know where to look and what to look for…because
you have had much experience identifying nails, bolts, screws, and many other
types of fasteners.

In order to obtain this needed
experience, you are to find and identify 50 different types of nails, bolts,
screws, and other fasteners. You
are to then mount each of these fasteners onto a board or other display unit and
clearly label each fastener.

- You will be working as an individual on this
project.
- Collect a minimum of 50 different types of
nails, bolts, screws and other fasteners.
You may collect more than 50.
- To identify the fasteners, consult the
following reference textbook located in the classroom:
Burke, Stanley R. and Wakeman, T. J., Modern
Agricultural Mechanics. Interstate
Publishers, Inc. Danville, IL. 1992.

Fasteners (commercial site with pictures)-click on bars on side for

- Securely
connect each fastener to your exhibit board with wire, ties, or other type
of material.
- Type
or print labels for each fastener on a separate paper.

Cut
out each label and glue to exhibit board underneath the appropriately
identified fastener.

Label
the exhibit with your name and date.

Three
grades will be given for this project.
- 50
fasteners on exhibit—2 points per different type
- 50
fasteners labeled correctly—2 points per fastener
- Neatness,
creativity, and overall effectiveness of display
Bonus points (up to 10
points) will be given for extra correctly labeled fasteners—55 @ 2 points =
110.

Once you have completed this
project you will be able to correctly identify a wide variety of nails, bolts,
screws, and other fasteners in order to be able to use the information to make
minor repairs around your home and business.
